Painted Fashion

Painted Fashion - What is it?

Painted fashion. I love painting on used clothing that isn't wanted anymore. The color(s) may be faded. The fabric may be tattered. The style may be outdated.

This is just the type of clothing that I search out. I have the opportunity to make these abandoned articles of clothing beautiful again.

With fabric paint, I can add splashes of color, and create cool designs. There are no rules.

My strength is painting on feminine fashion pieces: dresses, tops, graphic tee shirtsvests, jackets, shoes, and handbags.

Even though I enjoy painting, I don't always finish the project I am working on.

My painted fashion is merely using paint to transform a piece of clothing so that it is restored, and renewed.

Painted Fashion - The Design

I like to paint on clothing that I feel I can enhance in some way.

Here is a page with a video of painted clothing from years past.

And another one of me wearing a dress that I painted.

I like color. It's a very rare occasion that I paint anything solely black.

I like mixing patterns. I recently tried splashing different colors of paint on a plaid shirt, and it totally worked.

I also enjoy using colors that most people would not put together.

Experimenting is part of my process. When I have an idea in my head, I don't always know if it will turn out the way I envision it.

Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn't.

On those times that it doesn't, I usually repaint the item, and, most times, it looks much better the second time around.

When it comes to designing a particular piece, I usually get a feel for what I want to do after I stare at the clothing for a minute.

Although I am able to paint a variety of things, I usually stick with abstract patterns.

No two designs are exactly alike. Even if the colors are the same, the strokes of paint that I use are not.

Different paintbrushes create different looks, as well as the fabric that is being painted.

Painted Fashion - A Part of Me

For me, painting is very therapeutic. I paint best when it is quiet, or I have soft music playing in the background.

I am able to still my thoughts and release stress from the day.

Join me as I take on different painting projects.

I believe that everyone has a little creativity, so hopefully, you will be inspired to do some painting of your own.

You may have some old clothing items in your closet. If so, don't be so quick to give them away.

It would be great to experiment with paint, and see what you are able to do.

You may discover that painted fashion is a part of you too.
