Painted blue shoes.
I once needed a pair of comfortable shoes to wear to work.
I purchased a pair of moderate heel, black shoes with straps.
I rather liked these shoes, and wore them to work on many occasions.
Because the color black goes with anything, I paired them with many different outfits.
So the shoes perfectly served their purpose.
I was leaving the house to go somewhere not long before the pandemic started.
I looked in my closet for a pair of shoes to wear, and stumbled upon these.
Oh yeah. I had forgotten all about these shoes.
I wore them a couple more times, but then they sat in my closet for a long while.
While they were sitting, I found an occasion to examine the shoes.
They looked a little worn. Some of the stitching was coming loose, and the color was a little faded.
I didn't think I would be wearing these shoes anymore.
In the midst of these thoughts, I remembered that I had purchased leather paint, and since I didn't plan to wear these shoes anymore, this would be a great time to experiment.
I'm usually not the biggest fan of the color blue, but on this day, this is the color that I was drawn to.
As I began to paint strokes of blue on the shoes, I knew that I had chosen the right color.
The shoes were coming alive. Vibrant. Colorful. Fancy.
They were blossoming into a new pair of shoes.
I stayed true to not wearing the shoes anymore.
I admired the shoes for a while after they were painted because they were beautiful to behold.
Eventually, I reasoned that they weren't being used and had to stop taking up space.
I donated them to a charity.
I imagine that they are being worn to a lunch date.
Perhaps they have been in a courtyard, while the woman was wearing a new, colorful outfit.
Maybe they have walked around a house, being worn by a woman lounging in her pajamas who wants to feel special.
Whatever the occasion, the shoes are perfectly serving their purpose.
