Painting a black dress.
A solid black dress makes a great canvas.
It may be complemented with bright colors.
I initially splashed drops of gold paint on this dress.
It looked very nice, but I kept envisioning the color magenta against the black.
As a result, I painted over the gold, and replaced it with magenta.
I debated over whether or not I should paint the back.
In an effort to keep the dress from being too heavy with paint, I decided against it.
Because of the make of the fabric, the paint strokes were blotchy.
This is fine with me, as it created texture.
Perfectly imperfect.
I wear skirts, and dresses everyday.
Why? Pants don't usually fit me well, and I feel more comfortable in a skirt, or dress.
That being said, I would wear this dress just about anywhere.
I would wear it to a lunch date with the girls; a nice dinner; a play; or just about any other outing.
I paired the dress with heels for the photos, and this is probably how I would wear the dress in real life.
If I had to guess, I would say about three hours.
I painted this dress in two stages on two different days.
First, I painted the front, and then the back.
There was much more fabric to paint than I initially realized.
My hand actually got tired in the process, and I had to take a few breaks.
I also started with one type of paintbrush, and then I switched to a different type.
The second paintbrush made the painting process go much faster.
I love music, and dance, and am inspired by both in creating, and painting.
When I was about 11, or 12, I used to sit on my bed, with my radio, for hours listening to music.
I still enjoy listening to music today.
I also appreciate the art of dance.
I have been brought to tears while watching certain dancers perform.
I often listen to music while I paint.
Music helps to give me vision for the design, and colors.
I recently went to see a dance company at a theatre.
The ideas, and creativity overflowed as I sat there in awe.
I believe that there are different expressions of creativity, but it all flows from the same place.
