Simple paint design dress.
I purchased this dress at a thrift shop a few years ago.
I thought it was plain, but pretty.
I normally begin my search for clothing in the dress section.
I love dresses, and I enjoy browsing through them.
Painting them gives me the opportunity to enhance them in some way.
In preparing to paint this dress, I realized that I needed to keep it simple.
If I were to add too much paint, it may look gaudy.
There was a thick band across the waist, and a thinner horizontal band, that connected with the other band.
I decided to only paint the bands.
I chose the color yellow because it provided a soft contrast to the black.
I painted the dress a few years ago, but it is a size small, and I had no one to model it.
A relative of mine, who is a size small, was able to wear it, and allowed me to take photos.
It fit her perfectly.
Once she put the dress on, I was able to get a better feel for the design.
Very elegant.
I would probably wear this dress with strappy black sandals.
I would also pair it with a dainty, lightweight cardigan sweater.
My purse would be very small, black, and strapless.
I may choose small pearl earrings, and my hair would be worn in an updo.
I usually take a long, hard stare at a project once the paint is dry.
This is when I determine if anything needs to be added or changed.
I think I'm pretty good with putting colors together, but yes, there are times when the chosen colors do not look well together.
When this happens, I paint over the existing color(s) with the new one(s).
Most times, the second set of colors is more flattering.
Sometimes I need to change the design.
Still, there are times when nothing seems to work.
I have literally thrown items in the trash because I did not know how to "fix" them.
Normally, however, it does not get this drastic.
This is all part of my creative process...
