Spray painting a pre-owned dress.
I purchased this dress from a second hand store.
I was drawn to it because of the rich color, and inside lining.
I had initially planned to hand paint the dress, but I saw spray paints in the art supply store, and wanted to give spray painting a try.
A garment that has been spray painted has a different look than a hand painted garment.
Spray painted clothing has more of a matte finish in the end.
I wanted to test the finish of the silver paint, so this is the color that I chose for the dress.
I went outside, and laid the dress flat on a piece of card board.
Once I started spraying, I found that the spray can is a little more challenging to control than the paint brush.
I tried to spray the dress in different spots until a proportionate amount of the surface had been covered.
The photos do not represent the finished dress well.
The matte finish gave the dress a very unique look.
It was definitely an attention grabber.
I spay painted a few pieces of clothing, and I would have liked to have done more, but the fumes were very strong.
I was outside AND wearing a mask, but I could not handle the chemicals.
I took several breaks by going inside.
The fumes seemed to follow me inside the house.
By the time I finished, I smelled like the chemicals.
I also felt light headed for a while.
Unfortunately, I don't think I will be doing this again anytime soon.
A few years ago, I was running out of closet space, and made the difficult decision to give the dress away.
The dress was my size.
I now regret my decision, and wish I had kept the dress for myself.
The good news is that I will have other opportunities.
I hope to be painting for many more years.
In that time period, I'm sure to be able to paint a dress for myself.
Until that time, I will always remember spray painting a pre-owned dress.
