I purchased a black bolero jacket from a thrift shop recently.
I love bolero jackets.
They are easy to slip on, and off, and they add the perfect flair to an outfit.
This jacket is a size small, but it can be worn by a size medium as well.
The jacket caught my eye while I was shopping in the coats/ jackets section.
I immediately began to think about how I could enhance it with paint.
I painted this jacket three different times.
The first time, I very faintly painted the trim with magenta paint.
When I took photos, and looked at them, it was barely noticeable that the jacket had been painted.
I painted the trim a second time, and made the magenta more pronounced.
Afterward, I still was not satisfied with the paint job.
I painted the jacket a third time.
This time, I painted the entire jacket, and tried to ensure that the paint was a bit heavier.
Finally, I achieved the look that I wanted.
I can envision this bolero jacket being worn over an elegant black dress.
The woman is carrying a small black bag, and wearing strappy high heeled black sandals.
I can also see this jacket being worn with a plain black tee shirt.
The outfit also includes a pair of faded wide-legged blue jeans, a large colorful bag. and a pair of sneakers.
The tag with the fabric description has faded, and is illegible.
I believe that the fabric is a polyester/nylon blend.
Because the fabric is textured, the strokes of paint were not long and smooth.
Instead, they were short, and coarse.
For this particular abstract design, I found these types of strokes to be perfect.
The black and the magenta colors blended well together.
Any color matches black.
The magenta really stands out, and it makes the jacket "pop."
What a difference it made to add a heavier coating of paint.
I continue to learn from my mishaps, and I pray that I will grow as a painter every day.
