Painted Sandals

Painted Sandals - The Purchase

Painted sandals.

I remember when I first spotted them.

I was browsing the shoe store, not really seeing anything that I liked.

I was losing hope of finding a hidden treasure with each aisle that I walked down.

And then, I came face to face with these beautiful, pale pink sandals with a wedge heel.

How I loved them!

So dainty and feminine.

The lovely flowers on top were my favorite.

In that moment, I knew one thing...I had to have them.

Painted Sandals - Wear and Tear

These shoes became a staple in my wardrobe.

I wore them very often on the weekends, and sometimes to work as well.

Over time, my coveted sandals became worn down, and unappealing.

I stopped wearing them.

They were no longer at the front of my closet.

Painted Sandals - Pulling Them Out of a Box

I moved about a year ago.

The sandals I once adored were packed in one of the many boxes surrounding me.

One day while cleaning, I opened this box.

My sandals! I had totally forgotten about these!

As I looked at them, I remembered why I had forgotten about them.

They were not in good condition.

I began to wonder if I could make them over.

Could I transform them from shabby to chic?

Painted Sandals - Choosing a Color

What color did I want the shoes to be next?

My choices were blue, turquoise, red, orange, black, white, hot pink. or yellow.

At this point, I had painted several leather items: handbags, shoes, and a jacket.

The colors I had already used were blue, turquoise, red, orange, and hot pink.

I knew what these colors looked like.

I had not yet tested yellow, so that was going to be my choice.

Painted Sandals - The Process

One of the things that I find very satisfying, is seeing the old, dull, dingy color become a new, shiny, bright one.

This was happening with each stroke of the paint.

This keeps me so engaged that I don't want to stop until I'm done.

No interruptions, please. No telephone calls. No text messages. No hunger pangs.

I can't wait to see the finished product!

When the last dab of paint has been added, it's time to sit back and stare at the shoes for my final analysis.

"Great job!", I say, with a smile on my face.
