Hand Painted Handbags

Hand Painted Handbags - Old and Tattered

Hand painted handbags.

I have found that I really like painting old, tattered handbags.

I like the handbags that there seems to be no hope for.

Worn edges. Seams coming apart. Faded in color.

The type of handbag that the secondhand store has a hard time selling.

I can't always find handbags in this condition, but I have found a few.

I like the challenge that these bags give me.

I recently painted vintage handbag accessories that we're a bit tattered.

The first handbag that I painted. It was purchased from a thrift store.

Hand Painted Handbags - Leather

I have painted several leather handbags.

Some of these bags have been in the condition I described above.

I usually take "before" and "after" photos of my work.

I didn't realize how bad these "before" bags looked until I compared the photos.

About six months ago, I was fortunate to find someone who was selling about 10 vintage leather handbags for a good price.

They were all so different, and I was so excited to start painting them.

I haven't painted all of them yet, but I have painted a few.

I will be sharing them on upcoming pages.

Hand Painted Handbags - Color

I love to paint the handbags with bright, bold color.

There was a time in my life when I was only drawn to black. I think it was because I did not want to stand out.

I never imagined that I would one day be the total opposite.

My favorite colors so far have been pink, orange, red, and yellow.

Any one of these colors would be great for the woman who likes to dress in black, with just a splash of color.

Would I carry such a colorful handbag? Yep. Sure would.

Hand Painted Handbags - Vintage

I love the detailing on vintage handbags. Fancy stitching. Pockets. Separate compartments. Zippers. Inside lining. Elaborate closures.

They were made by real artisans, creatives, and makers who took pride in their work.

The materials used were of great quality.

Hand Painted Handbags - Design or No Design?

All of the handbags that I paint are a solid color.

Painting designs is not my strength - at least not on handbags.

I have seen some, however, with really cool images painted on them. Flowers. Animals. Trees. Sunsets. Abstract.
