Painting faux leather athletic shoes.
These shoes have never been worn, but they have been around for a long time.
They were given to me by my sister, as she was cleaning out her closet.
She thought I may like to try painting them, and she was right.
They were originally a dingy beige, so they were not very appealing to look at.
I wanted these shoes to go from uninteresting, to attention grabbers.
I had a vision for the colors that I wanted to paint the shoes, and how I wanted them to look.
I envisioned using all five primary colors.
I started with black leather paint.
I painted the shoes lightly, as I did not want the black to be too overwhelming.
Next, I added red paint.
I actually could have stopped here because I liked the way these two colors looked together.
I then added yellow, and I was loving how each color gave the shoes a different look.
Blue was the next color.
And last, white.
I tried to splatter the paint on, and not blend the colors too much.
After the white, I added more blue, and a little red.
I painted the rubber perimeter of the shoes black.
I painted the shoelaces black, and blue.
Did I like it?
I wasn't sure.
I kept changing my mind.
One minute, I liked them.
The next minute, I didn't.
The colors seemed too dark.
Should I paint them again?
I decided to paint over the colors that I had deemed final.
I really liked the red, but I added yellow, and white as well.
I painted the perimeter of the shoes white again.
I need to add a water based sealer to the perimeter so that the paint doesn't rub off.
I also purchased new, white shoelaces.
I like the shoes much better now.
I'm ready to mix, and blend colors on other faux leather, and leather shoes, and handbags.
In the course of mixing paint, I'm always amazed to see what colors, and shades emerge.
