Painted pink dress.
This is not a used dress.
I purchased it new from a local retailer.
I bought it to paint, and be modeled in the fashion show that I had.
Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to paint it before the show.
Since then, I have come to realize that I love sweatshirt dresses.
They are comfortable, cute, and fun to paint.
I prefer the original color of the dress to be gray because so many colors are a complement to this color.
When it comes to this style of dress, I now have many design ideas.
Initially, I had no clue how to begin with the painting.
The dress has ruffle sleeves, and that really threw me for a loop in the beginning.
I had never painted ruffles before.
Interestingly enough, I started with the ruffles.
I began with yellow, and then added white.
It was not looking great, and I got discouraged.
I put the dress aside for a long while.
Oh, did I mention that I had only painted the ruffles on one of the sleeves?
It was about a year later when I picked the dress up again.
It was on its way to being donated to charity several times, but somehow, escaped this fate.
I laid the dress out, and stared at it for a while.
This is my process before I paint any piece of clothing.
This time, the color that stood out to me was pink.
Ok. Pink.
What exactly was I going to do with this pink?
I started painting to see where it would go.
Paint splotches began to form, and I liked what I was seeing.
The dress was coming alive.
I always have fun when I paint, but it is also work.
I like to call it "fun work."
This was a balancing act for sure.
I needed to use just the right amount of paint with each stroke of the brush.
Too much paint would cause the fabric to become stiff.
Too little would not yield the look I desired to create.
In the end, it all worked out, and I was very pleased.
Maybe yellow for the next one?
