Painted ballerina tee.
I was shopping at Michael's (an arts and crafts store), and I stumbled upon an aisle of blank tee-shirts.
Normally, these tee-shirts would not have grabbed my attention.
I had been wanting to paint on a tee-shirt, however, and this store had so many colors to choose from.
I needed to narrow the colors down to white, and gray in order to have a color that was visible to draw on, and paint from.
It was very important that I be able to see the pencil lines as I am drawing, and after the drawing is complete.
I have so many white tee-shirts, and I didn't want another one.
For this reason, I chose to go with the gray.
One of the images that I love to draw/paint is a ballerina, and there are two reasons for this.
First, I greatly appreciate the art of dance.
I'm not the best dancer, but I do enjoy dancing (in the privacy of my own home).
When I see skillful dancers using their talent, it quite often brings me to tears.
Dance is such a beautiful art form.
Second, when I was a child, I loved to draw, but I was unable to draw movement.
My drawings were of people, and the people were quite stiff.
I have a sister who is a wonderful artist.
She often drew horses when we were children.
When looking at her drawings of horses, you could see the mane, and tail blowing in the wind.
You could hear the sound of the the horse's gallup.
I have since learned to capture movement, and I am fascinated by it.
I long to show the ballerina's dance moves with all of the grace, and style that she has within her.
Was it difficult to draw and paint on the tee-shirt?
I had no struggles with painting on the tee shirt, but it was challenging to draw on it.
I had my eraser nearby as I had to erase the pencil lines, and start over many times.
The tee-shirt is not a steady surface, like a sheet of card stock, or a canvas.
It took more time than it would have taken had I been drawing on a flat, steady surface.
In the end, I was glad that I stayed the course.
