Painted Prom Dress

Painted Prom Dress -My Prom Dress Resurfaced (Video Below)

Painted prom dress.

My mother found my old prom dress in her closet, and gave it to me.

I was surprised it was still around.

When I saw it, I knew I wanted to upcycle it with paint, but I didn't have a design in mind.

So, it sat in my closet, untouched for a year.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to finally paint it.

The paint job resulted in a simple abstract design with magenta fabric paint.

Painted Prom Dress -What Design Will I Choose?

I thought long, and hard about the design.

Nothing really stood out.

Maybe drops of paint with two or three colors?

This was the most that I could come up with.

I would pour the paint onto the dress.

I was somewhat reluctant to get started because I knew I had one chance at this.

There was no room for error.

Drops of paint on the dress was my plan up until I actually started painting.

Painted Prom Dress - The Process

I dabbed the smallest amount of paint on the tip of the sponge brush, and began to paint strokes as long as I could without having to dab more paint on the brush.

The dress has an underskirt.

I tried to not allow paint to seep through onto the skirt.

Unfortunately, it did.

The good news is that it is not noticeable.

It blends in with the paint on the dress.

Even so, I will be careful to put paper between the layers if I paint a similar dress in the future.

I did not realize how much fabric the dress has.

Altogether, it probably took about two hours to paint.

Painted Prom Dress - The Outcome

I am no longer the size that I was when I wore this dress to the Prom.

As a result, I asked a relative to model it for me.

It did not fit her snug.

There was extra room which lets me know that a larger person could wear it.

Nevertheless, when she put it on, I could fully see how the painted dress looked.

I was pleased with the outcome.

Very feminine.
