Painting a woman on vintage leather jacket.
I was given a brown vintage leather jacket that was in great condition.
The person was cleaning, and purging, and didn't have a desire for the jacket anymore.
This gave me another opportunity to make something old look new again.
I knew that I wanted to paint it, and make it more colorful, but I didn't have a definitive color, or design in mind.
I ultimately decided to leave the front of the jacket brown, and paint the back pink, with a woman on top of the pink.
I usually draw an image before I paint it.
I love to draw, but I can't say that drawing is especially easy for me.
A lot of erasing, and re-drawing takes place while I am in the process.
Even so, it's much easier for me to draw on paper, or canvas.
I find fabric challenging because it is not a still surface.
The fabric moves when the pencil and eraser move.
This makes it difficult to get the proportions right.
It took some time, but I was able to get the drawing completed.
I was taking photos of the jacket as I was painting it.
I wanted to capture the progression of my work, and post the photos on social media.
When I take photos, I too find them interesting to reflect on later.
It is as if I am only an observer of the art, and not the creator.
I am intrigued to look at them repeatedly, and appreciate the artistry.
I am looking at the jacket now, and I am not totally satisfied with it.
I don't like the mixture of the brown, pink, and other colors.
It is almost dizzying to look at.
I think it would be more pleasing to the eye if the the parts of the jacket that are brown were also painted pink.
Blending the right colors together is essential.
With that being said, it looks like I have more painting to do.
Stay tuned for the upgrade...
