Painting a tattered wallet.
I was browsing a thrift store, and walked over to the handbag section.
I spotted a women's wallet that most would have trashed.
I, on the other hand, was excited to purchase it.
You see, I love these type of finds.
For me, this was an opportunity to try and restore this item.
I was hoping that with a few coats of paint, it could look new again.
It was worth a try.
I was vacillating between turquoise, pink, and orange.
I decided to go with turquoise.
As I began painting the wallet, I wasn't sure if I could pull it off.
The first coat of paint does not do the garment much justice.
Oh, but the second coat of paint...
To see the wallet coming to life was so gratifying.
I could not paint fast enough.
In all, I gave the wallet about five coats of paint.
Most of us are ready to throw a dress, pair of shoes, or handbag out at the sign of a little wear and tear (myself included).
This experience has shown me that there is always hope for restoration.
It's amazing what a little paint can do.
If you are thinking of doing a D.I.Y. (do - it - yourself) project, a worn out clothing, shoe, or handbag item may be a good place to start (even if you have never painted before).
Whatever is done to the item, will only enhance it.
This project was a lot of fun.
Sometimes I get so lost in painting that I don't want to do anything else: eat, talk on the phone, watch television, engage on social media, etc.
This was one of those times.
Now, when I enter thrift shops, I find myself longing to find tattered, worn, clothing items.
I want the challenge of making something old look new again.
A few years ago, I was watching a television show where a woman would restore broken down, tarnished homes that were 100+ years old.
One day she said that when she entered these homes, she could hear them speaking to her, "Make me beautiful again."
And that she did.
It is my hope to be half as good as she is in beautification and renewal.
